Second Meeting of the Signatories (MOS2) of the MOU on the Conservation of Southern South American Migratory Grassland Birds and Their Habitats

Florianopolis, Brazil | 24-25 July 2018

The CMS Secretariat, together with the Government of Brazil, as MOU Coordinator, organized the Second Meeting of the Signatories of the CMS MOU on the Conservation of Southern South American Migratory Grassland Bird Species and Their Habitats. The meeting took place in person from Tuesday 24 of July to Wednesday 25 2018 in Florianopolis, Brazil.

This meeting was addressed to all MOU Signatory countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Urugay, as well as to observers working in Grassland bird conservation in the region.

Goals of the Meeting

1. To report progress in the implementation of this MOU by Signatories and Stakeholders
2. To identify implementation gaps, threats to the species and habitats addressed by this MOU and to discuss next steps to address them
3. Update the list of National Focal Points for the MoU to ensure clear communication and representation
4. Address coordination mechanisms for the MOU to enhance implementation and collaboration

Background

This 2nd meeting follows on the outcomes of the first previous MOU meeting celebrated in Asunción, Paraguay in 2010.Detailed information about this meeting can be found in the MOU main web page

Key Meeting Outomes

1. Reviewed the status of species covered by the MOU which saw inclusion of Bobolink (Dolichonyz oryzivorus) under the MOU.
2. Updated the MOU  Action Plan for the 2018-2023 cycle.
3. Initiated a planning matrix to guide future efforts.
4. Established a coordination mechanism and  format for future national reports.
5. Strengthened collaboration with organizations like the Wetlands and Waterbird Species Network (WHSRN) and the Argentine Wildlife Foundation.
